Many a time have I wondered, what did we start with - by deciding to share our knowledge of Kalaripayattu? Is this just a hobby or something more?
The words you read here on, as directly shared by a practitioner from our dear community tells me, that are our thoughts and actions go far deeper.
She says,
"Life felt like it had come to a standstill following the COVID-19 pandemic. The overwhelming pressure
of work combined with deep emotional exhaustion transformed me into a different person. During that period of depression, I consulted doctors and started medication in search of peace. I desperately searched for solace through various yoga centers. However, despite my extensive search and efforts, my mind remained restless and stuck; I couldn't find the healing I was looking for.
While living in Germany, amidst the isolation of a busy life, a life-changing event occurred. My late great-grandfather appeared in my dream. It was only after this vision that I truly began to realize my connection to the legendary revolutionary Arattupuzha Velayudha Panikkar. I discovered that the warrior blood of my great-grandfather, who used to teach Kalaripayattu to young girls for self-defense, flowed through my veins. I understood then that the remedy for my struggles lay hidden in my own roots.
Living so far away from Kerala, I never imagined I could find and practice our traditional Kalari here in Germany. I believe it was divine grace and the guidance of my ancestors that led me to the right master in this foreign land. That is how I found Hari Master.
Meeting Hari Master was the true turning point. More than just a teacher, he mentored me like an elder brother. In the beginning, he personally guided me through meditation sessions, and thereafter, his constant motivation to practice meditation on my own helped dissolve my fears. I once struggled with severe social anxiety, but his guidance gave me the strength to eventually stand on a stage and perform Kalari with confidence.
What makes Hari Master truly special is the selfless way he cares for all his students. He doesn't just see us as students in a class, but as individuals with our own burdens and dreams. He treats every student with the same warmth and dedication, ensuring that no one feels left behind. He has an intuitive way of sensing when a student is struggling, offering a kind word or extra guidance exactly when it’s needed. His Kalari is not just a school; it is a family where he carries the responsibility of a guardian, nurturing our spirits as much as our bodies.
Throughout this journey, Hari Master’s partner, Viktoria, has been a pillar of support. The combination of Master’s expert guidance and Viktoria’s care helped me regain a level of self-confidence that even medication couldn't provide. Every step I take on the Kalari floor today feels like a new lease on life. I am eternally grateful to Hari Master for leading me back to my strength and my heritage."
I am one of those people who constantly seek purpose in being alive. Kalaripayattu allows me to attain new levels of purpose.
Grateful. To all masters of the past, present and future.
